The end to a LOST… show

Lost : The Series Finale

The time has finally arrived, the answers to ALL our questions, right?

Wrong. I completely readied myself to be heavily disappointed after watching the series finale, due to the simple fact that Season 6 was giving me nothing to really hang hope on.  From when they had that episode about Jacob and his brother as young bucks and their ‘mom’ showing Jacob that light tunnel, things were getting wack.  And that being the reason why the Black Smoke Monster came to be was even more disappointing.

So everybody was dead, no real surprise there.  Even as I watched the Jimmy Kimmel special where they were further trying to figure out exactly what the show meant, I just didn’t get a sense of concrete confidence in the outcome.

Overall, it was a great show and like the few other shows in which I hold at high regard in their production quality, definitely has raised the bar in how TV should be.  I just think this series could have gotten their point across by Season 3 or 4, because Season 6 was a big waste of time.  And the ending didn’t provide the kind of ‘conclusion’ one needs

It was like a past relationship with no closure. And that’s how I’ll leave it

Breaking Bad : Season One

May 18, 2010 - 5:47 pm No Comments

With Lost coming to a close and The Office the only other active show I even bother watching these days, I took the advice from several different people and decided to give Breaking Bad a go

Season 1, Episodes 1–7
It’s a good thing that each episode is a good hour, because shows that are half that are becoming less and less appealing (I’ll give the exception to How To Make It In America).  Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston who plays Walter White (remember the father from Malcom in the Middle? SAME GUY), a high-school science teacher who learns that he has lung cancer.  Of course there had to be more problems, one mainly being of the financial matter, which inadvertently pushes Walter into entering the world of crystal meth.  Nooo, he doesn’t start taking it.. but he sure does cook it!  And not only does he cook it, but he makes some of the purest form of crystal meth ever seen.  Parterned up with one of his former students, Jesse Pinkman, they embark on some of the most craziest of adventures.. most of which are surely unplanned and uninvited.

Did I mention Walter’s brother-in-law is a DEA agent?  Yeah, throw that in the mix.  So now you have a little pinch of Dexter-esque added, except Walter isn’t secretly killing bad guys.

Episode 7 didn’t end in any epic way, but almost ended just as the previous episodes before it did.. which didn’t leave much room for suspense.  Don’t get me wrong, it has me hooked and already into Season Two, it’s just that I would have expected Season One to end off with more of a sizzle (get it?  chemistry — sizzle? corrrrn)

On with the show

New Addiction — How To Make It In America

May 7, 2010 - 9:28 pm No Comments

I was told to watch this show awhile back when it first premiered, but I didn’t bother to listen at that time.  And then recently, I saw more people talking about it and people kept saying.. you’ll really like it, trust me.  So I finally grabbed all 8 episodes that have aired for Season 1 so far and spent a good couple hours today getting all caught up.

How To Make It In America — Season 1, Ep 1–8

My take on it?  The voices were right.  Has its little Entourage (probably because it’s the same people that made Entourage, made this) aroma stenched all over it, but is a bit more realistic as it’s just about the every day hustle, which I’m sure most people can relate to.  But just like Entourage, the show is mad short.. and when you’re used to watching hour long shows (Lost, Dexter, Weeds), 22 minutes of showtime, just doesn’t seem sufficient enough. But despite that, I have now jumped on the wagon and look forward to seeing where the show goes

2010 Oscars

March 7, 2010 - 11:48 pm No Comments

I haven’t really sat down and watched the Oscars in a long time really, because I never find the jokes funny and it usually drags on to the point of sheer boredom.  Tonight’s Oscars really wasn’t any different from what I just described, yet I was interested to see if Precious would win some awards and if Avatar would completely clean house.

As usual, the put all the not-so-anticipated awards at the beginning of the show so that you’re forced to either sit there for the full length of it to see what you really tuned in to see, or come back around 11:30pm and catch those awards you really wanted to see.  I was glad to see Steve Carrell present an award, because he has become my modern day Jim Carey (who I used to admire much as a teen growing up)..

The Intro : Much is made of who hosts the Oscars, and then how they performed after all the lights die down.  Steve Martin (whose last movie escapes me, CAUSE ITS BEEN THAT LONG) and Alec Baldwin (guessing from 30Rock fame) got the green light to entertain the masses.  They did alright, nothing too memorable really.. somebody hit me up when they choose Steve Carrell and whoever else they want, cause that would be a treat in itself.

The Awards : I was surprised on more than one occasion during the show, more-so at the fact that movies I never thought twice about, got so much praise tonight.  I remember when I watched The Hurt Locker, I thought it was a good movie and I do remember recommending it to a few people but I honestly never looked at it as Oscar material.  When I think Oscar, I think Gladiator. Even the Blind Side, a movie I also didn’t think much of, produced some golden man totin’ winners.  So when Sandra Bullock beat out Meryl Streep and that chick from Precious, I was very surprised.  And when Hurt Locker beat out Avatar for both best director and best picture.. let’s just say, wow!  Did you see how fast Tom Hanks came in and announced the winner for Best Picture at the end?  So quick I thought it was fake.. ha, I was waiting for him to be like, “just kidding… AVATAR!”

** sidebar — that was James Cameron’s ex-wife right? (that won best director) Ooooh, that must really suck

But that didn’t happen.  Clearly.  Overall, very ho-hum and makes me wish I did something else for the time spent watching it, cause I could have had the same reaction either reading about it tomorrow or on my twitter.

The Office : Season 6, Episode 17

March 4, 2010 - 10:24 pm No Comments

“The Delivery”

You just got to love when a new episode of The Office premieres, and it’s 1 hour on top of that!  Only true Office fans can really connect and enjoy the on-screen chemistry between Jim & Pam (or is that Pam & Jim?), because everytime they go through a special moment (ie. their wedding day) it’s a huge episode.

So this time?  Pam is ready to have her baby and the whole office is preparing for this moment.  But what’s the catch?  Something about how Jim & Pam’s insurance company only covers 2 days, so they don’t want to waste a day going in early and spend a majority of the episode trying to avoid going to the hospital at all costs.

Funniest moments?  Aww man, too many.. you can’t have an hour of Office mania and not have a gazillion classic moments.  Dwight and Angela reuniting with their ‘Let’s bang it out’ contract, Erin and Andy FINALLY hooking up and of course Pam having a.…

Baby girl. Amazing episode, which I will most likely watch again tomorrow when I get home from work

TV Catchup

February 5, 2010 - 11:19 am No Comments

Been a pretty long week and there were actually some shows/programs that I wanted to catch live, but due to work that was a no-go.  So I came home this morning and instead of knocking right out like I probably should, I decided to squeeze in atleast 2 of ‘em..

Of course I had to start the morning off right with a brand new episode of The Office!  Been awhile since I had a good laugh, and of course my favourite Scranton crew didn’t dissapoint.

“Sabre”

So Dunder Mifflin was saved by this outside company named Sabre (pronounced SAY-BURR) hah, which is half the joke!  Of course Andy had to get his song on, he kills me with the tunes, too bad he didn’t bust out the banjo.  Of course I’m anticipating the new storyline with him and Aaron.  Meanwhile, some new changes are brought into effect and Michael Scott ain’t feeling them one bit, so what does he do?  Seeks advice of course, and makes a uninvited trip to David Wallace’s home.  I think I died laughing when he was leaving and said “That was not the David Wallace I know, that was some scary creature” or something to that extent, but it killed me

How could I forget the sub-plot of Jim and Pam trying to get in with one of the premiere daycares in the area?  Pureeeeee jokes, right from when he catches dude in the kids bathroom with the door unlocked.  “Well did you ever think that you guys aren’t as super nice as you think you are?” to which Jim replies “Why would you leave the door unlocked?  Anybody could have just walked in” and gives the camera ‘the look’.  Kill me again.

And the song!  “Suck It” by David Wallace and son.. hahahaha, I don’t even know what to say about that, that is just classic.

After the Office, I had Lost all ready to go even though I knew it was going be a nice 2 hours of my morning (well, 1hr and 21minutes without commercials).. but I figured, might as well while I’m still awake right?  So here we go, the first episode of the last season and we BETTER be getting some damn answers!

“L A X”

The show started off with errr’body back on the plane, but this time it was switching back and forth with a few of them back on the island.  So I was once again confused.  This time on the plane though, they had a few bumps but still managed to land safely which again had me confused.  I was only confused because it kept jumping back to them on the island in some predicaments and in a time after the explosion.  I have almost come to the point where I am just going to watch this show without expecting any concrete answers.  Because even the part where Jon Locke is alive inside the big ass foot and dead outside on the beach, I’m like huh?  And then buddy turns into the black smoke (spoiler! oops) and goes on with these crazy stares.  Juliet who was sucked into the hole last season followed by mounds and mounds of metal somehow managed to SURVIVE, and survive juuuuuust enough to tell Sawyer “I have something very important to tell you.….” dead.  Seriously, who stays alive just enough to utter those words without revealing it?  But wait!  We have talented people on the island who can see dead people and who can talk to dead people, how lucky we are.  And what was the missing information?  “It worked.”  And so the episode goes on with some temple mission, a dead Syed, some people who don’t speak English but understand it, and Syed waking up from the dead and .… episode done.

Shake my damn head, more questions and less answers.  Not a good start

Puppetshow Adventures : The Legend of Bighead

February 2, 2010 - 8:45 am No Comments

It was a sloooooow night in terms of anything interesting happening, but overall the night went quick still as the job I was assigned to do was cheese.  However, I do have to introduce this character at work on my shift, who at first I thought was a bit whatever but this just tipped the boat right over.

His head is humongous.  Seriously though, he must get lost in thought every time he starts to think!  He’s like a real life characature, an extra in one of those Ludacris videos where everybody’s heads are bigger than their bodies.  Do you remember that 90’s cartoon show on MTV called The Head? Hahah, obviously not THAT extreme but I mean, I’ve heard the reference ‘five-head’ (because a forhead, for = four.. get it?  old) to someone like a Tyra Banks (who definitely does fit the bill) but dude could run her for her money any day of the week.  He’s atleast double in size, his head just may be the size of my thigh.

Maybe if he was a cool guy, I wouldn’t business so much.. but every time I see him, he gives off this weird vibe and all I could see is his head.  Go figure

The legend is real people, and I have proof!  Now if I could just fit all of it on my camera phone…

Aziz Ansari — Intimate Moments For a Sensual Evening

January 25, 2010 - 9:05 pm No Comments

I first got into Parks & Recreation based on the sole fact that it was created by the same people who created my favorite show The Office.  I had mixed feelings about the show, it was something you kind of forced yourself to like and try to get used to because you love The Office so much, but sometimes it’s just not ‘all there’ just yet.  But one thing was for sure, the ‘brown guy’ on the show was definitely the most entertaining.

Aziz Ansari aka The Brown Guy (I call him), always makes me laugh, so when I caught wind of the fact that he had an uncut standup floating around.. I was sure to get my hands on it.  So tonight I decided to watch it before heading to work and it was pure jokes still!

Everything from gay rights, to Kanye West, to Craigslist and Facebook.. he had the most random rants but made you laugh same ways.  I must admit, he has a lot of energy, A LOT.  I guess I was waiting for him to use the ‘Awesome’ line he usually uses in Parks & Recreation, but I’m guessing that’s more his character on the show as oppose to anything else.  Although he did use it once when he did the joke about meeting M.I.A. (the singer) and trying to impress her with some Tamil  by telling her that “You, right here, is awesome”.  But you’ll have to watch it (or listen) to the whole standup to understand the whole joke.

The Office & Monopoly TOGETHER?

January 15, 2010 - 4:24 pm No Comments

My oh my.  So I get this email that makes me just grin from ear to ear.. the unifying of The Office and the classic board game Monopoly? It’s like an unmade prayer has been answered!

Right now they’re taking votes as to what the pieces should be.  You KNOW I had to pick the Dwight bobblehead, cause I have that badboy!  (courtesy of my sister)
