2010 Oscars
I haven’t really sat down and watched the Oscars in a long time really, because I never find the jokes funny and it usually drags on to the point of sheer boredom. Tonight’s Oscars really wasn’t any different from what I just described, yet I was interested to see if Precious would win some awards and if Avatar would completely clean house.
As usual, the put all the not-so-anticipated awards at the beginning of the show so that you’re forced to either sit there for the full length of it to see what you really tuned in to see, or come back around 11:30pm and catch those awards you really wanted to see. I was glad to see Steve Carrell present an award, because he has become my modern day Jim Carey (who I used to admire much as a teen growing up)..
The Intro : Much is made of who hosts the Oscars, and then how they performed after all the lights die down. Steve Martin (whose last movie escapes me, CAUSE ITS BEEN THAT LONG) and Alec Baldwin (guessing from 30Rock fame) got the green light to entertain the masses. They did alright, nothing too memorable really.. somebody hit me up when they choose Steve Carrell and whoever else they want, cause that would be a treat in itself.
The Awards : I was surprised on more than one occasion during the show, more-so at the fact that movies I never thought twice about, got so much praise tonight. I remember when I watched The Hurt Locker, I thought it was a good movie and I do remember recommending it to a few people but I honestly never looked at it as Oscar material. When I think Oscar, I think Gladiator. Even the Blind Side, a movie I also didn’t think much of, produced some golden man totin’ winners. So when Sandra Bullock beat out Meryl Streep and that chick from Precious, I was very surprised. And when Hurt Locker beat out Avatar for both best director and best picture.. let’s just say, wow! Did you see how fast Tom Hanks came in and announced the winner for Best Picture at the end? So quick I thought it was fake.. ha, I was waiting for him to be like, “just kidding… AVATAR!”
** sidebar — that was James Cameron’s ex-wife right? (that won best director) Ooooh, that must really suck
But that didn’t happen. Clearly. Overall, very ho-hum and makes me wish I did something else for the time spent watching it, cause I could have had the same reaction either reading about it tomorrow or on my twitter.
